  • Kong Kab Bok… translation: Frog bok?

    Ever had this? It’s chicken, not frog.


    It is a Cambodian dish traditionally stuffed with frog meat. But since many people don’t like to eat frog meat, it is now stuffed with chicken and pork and other ingredients I don’t know how to say in English. Sorry!!!


    It’s not hard to make but it’s tedious. Removing the meat and bones from the wing can take hours if you don’t have the right set of knives. It took me 4 hours the first time and ended up with numerous holes on the skin.


    I usually eat this with rice and shredded green papaya saturated in vinegar(that greenish-yellow stuff) along with Siracha for that extra kick!


    Kong Kab = frog
    Bok = ????


    I used to think the translation was fake frog but I found out that I was wrong because the word bok sounded like ‘trick’ in Khmer. But it also means something else in food terms.
